Acting on its previous notification, the East Coast Railway (ECoR), on Friday, announced that three major express trains will shift operations to Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN) starting May 11, 2025.
As per the notification, the Konark Express (Mumbai route), Visakha Express (Secunderabad route), and Inter City Express (Visakhapatnam route) will now originate and terminate at BBSN, easing access for passengers in North Bhubaneswar, Athgarh, and Cuttack.
The move further aims to decongest the city’s main railway station and usher development in the northern regions of the state capital and the expanding Cuttack City.
Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark Express (11019/11020):
From May 11, the Mumbai-bound Konark Express (11019) will terminate at BBSN. After arriving at Bhubaneswar Main Station at its scheduled time, it will depart at 11:55 pm, halt briefly at Mancheswar (12:02–12:04 am), and reach BBSN by 12:20 am.
The return train (11020) to Mumbai will depart from BBSN at 2:40 pm starting May 12, stop at Mancheswar (2:48–2:50 pm), and proceed to the Main Station by 3:00 pm before continuing its journey.
Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar Visakha Express (17015/17016):
The Secunderabad-bound service (17016) will end at BBSN from May 11. After arriving at the Main Station, it leaves at 4:00 pm, pauses at Mancheswar (4:04–4:06 pm), and arrives at BBSN by 4:25 pm.
The Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad train (17015) departs BBSN at 8:00 am from May 12, stops at Mancheswar (8:08–8:10 am), and exits the Main Station at 8:40 am.
Visakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express (22819/22820):
Starting May 12, the Visakhapatnam service (22820) will terminate at BBSN. After reaching the Main Station, it departs at 12:15 am, halts at Mancheswar (12:20–12:22 am), and arrives at BBSN by 12:35 am.
The Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam train (22819) leaves BBSN at 7:15 am, stops at Mancheswar (7:18–7:20 am), and departs the Main Station at 7:45 am.
All trains will have a 2-minute halt at Mancheswar and a 20-minute pause at the Main Station to facilitate passenger transfers. The shift aims to distribute traffic and improve convenience for northern neighbourhoods.
The New Station, operational since 2018, is part of the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Scheme, featuring expanded parking, modern waiting areas, improved lighting, and upgraded amenities. Future plans include new foot-over bridges and enhanced station infrastructure.
Passengers are advised to check revised timings and boarding points to avoid disruptions.
