3 labourers die of asphyxiation in Odisha’s Sambalpur

At least three labourers, Srikant Munda, Bharat Rana, and Basant Dehuri, reportedly died of asphyxiation while digging the centring for an under-construction toilet tank at Pukuda village in Sambalpur on Saturday.

At least three labourers reportedly died of asphyxiation at a construction site in Sambalpur on Saturday.

This incident took place this morning at Pukuda village under Jamankira Police Station in the district. 

According to sources, the incident occurred when the labourers were digging the centring for an under-construction toilet tank. 

The deceased labourers have been identified as Srikant Munda, Bharat Rana, and Basant Dehuri, while Siddharth Munda, who is in critical condition, is undergoing treatment at Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital.

As per reports, the toilet tank was constructed around four months ago, but the centring of the toilet tank was incomplete and was scheduled for today. 

The four labourers reportedly went into the toilet tank but soon fell unconscious due to suffocation. Following this, the labourers were rushed to the Fashimal Community Health Centre where doctors declared three of them dead. 

As per the Fashimal CHC doctors’ reference, Siddharth Munda was later transferred to Sambalpur DHH for further treatment.
