Tension flared up in Sambalpur on Tuesday evening allegedly after some miscreants hurled a bomb near the Peerbaba Chhak. Three persons were reportedly injured and a bike was damaged in the bomb explosion.

As per reports, two miscreants hurled a bomb from a flyover in the area. However, the reason behind the bombing was not ascertained immediately.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area and a large crowd gathered near the spot. 

Police rushed to the spot to control the situation and disperse the crowd from the area. Police asked people to avoid gatherings in the area. A riot control vehicle was also stationed at the place. 

Police along with a scientific team started an investigation into the incident. The scientific team collected samples from the site.   

The Sambalpur SP and IG (Northern Range) reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

Sambalpur SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said, "We received information that an explosion took place near a bike. The injured persons are out of danger. An investigation is underway. The situation is under control. Those involved in the incident will be tracked. We are checking the CCTV footage in the area. We have deployed three platoons of CRPF."

Collector Akshay Sunil Agrawal said,”An investigation into the matter is underway and I appeal to the people to maintain peace and not to be scared of."
