Four persons died, and two sustained injuries in two separate road mishaps in Cuttack and Kalahandi districts on Saturday. 

The accident in Cuttack district claimed three lives. While the identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained, they all are known to be Class 10 students. 

According to a source, after their tuition, the three students were returning home riding a bike from Chakuleswar village under Banki police limits in Cuttack district. As they were nearing Rana Sankha, their bike collided with a pick-up van coming from the opposite direction. 

The collision was so severe that the riders were thrown off their bike and hit the ground. They were immediately rescued and rushed to Banki government hospital where the doctor declared two of them dead. The third one was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack as his condition deteriorated. However, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment. 

In the second accident reported from Kalahandi district, a girl was killed and two others suffered severe injuries.

According to a source, Hemaraj Naik of Dulakibandha village under Kalampur police limits had gone to his father-in-law’s house at Sinapali to attend ‘shraddha’. He had taken his sister-in-law and her daughter along with him. 

Today morning, when they were returning to their village on a scooter a speeding truck hit them from behind and sped away from the spot. In the mishap, Naik’s niece died on the spot. Local people rescued profusely bleeding Naik and his sister-in-law and rushed them to Dharamgarh Sub-Divisional hospital in a 108 ambulance. 

In both the cases, the police have registered cases and launched probes to ascertain the cause of the accidents and manhunts to nab the drivers.
