3 arrested in loot & gang rape incident in Bhubaneswar apartment
As many as three persons were arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday in connection with the shocking incident of alleged loot and gang rape of a woman in her apartment in the Maitri Vihar area in Bhubaneswar.
The woman was with her little daughter when the burglars allegedly barged into her apartment and committed the heinous crime.
Twin City Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh informed that as many as three miscreants were involved in the crime.
“The miscreants had stolen a mobile phone from the victim’s house a day before the incident. They had made the plan to perpetrate the crime after finding that the balcony door remains open. As per their plan, the burglars held the woman at knife-point and gang-raped her. The two main accused have criminal antecedents. It was a challenge to nab the culprits. All of them were residing near the area,” said Singh in a presser.
As per reports, the main accused have been identified as Bikash Nayak and Jaga Singh. The other accused has been identified as Tukuna Nayak who is an auto driver. Mobile phones and a knife have been seized from their possession. Both the main accused have criminal antecedents against them and they have earlier gone to jail in connection with many cases. However, after returning from jail on bail, they started criminal activities again.
Notably, the shocking incident occurred at around 2 am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when the 27-year-old woman was asleep in her apartment along with her daughter. The burglars allegedly looted her gold earrings and mobile phone. After finding that no male member was present in the house, the burglars allegedly held the woman at knife-point and gang-raped her in front of her daughter. They threatened to kill her daughter if she revealed it to anyone.
Earlier, based on the FIR lodged by the victim, Maitri Vihar Police had detained two burglars in this connection and questioned them at the police station.
