In a bid to intensify enforcement activities, the Excise Department is planning to set up 25 new excise stations in Odisha.

In a letter to all Excise SPs, the Excise Commissioner has stated that out of the total 25 excise stations, 3 each will come up in Ganjam, Balasore and Berhampur. Two new excise stations each have been planned for Cuttack, Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh districts.

The new excise stations are likely to play a crucial role in intensifying enforcement activities under excise, NDPS and other relevant acts. Apart from this, the new units will also help in countering other problems like cross-border infiltration of illegal transport, storage, illicit distillation of liquor and check hooch tragedy in the state.

The Excise Commissioner has asked Excise SPs to examine the feasibility of opening up of the new excise stations based on geographical size of excise station, inaccessibility and vulnerability to ID liquor distillation and supply from neighbouring districts, states, number of cases and other aspects.

A crucial meeting has been convened on September 4 to chalk out further strategy.
