The police arrested as many as 22 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha members including the wing's state unit president, Irasis Acharya following violent clashes with the police during a protest on Tuesday.

As per reports, the police have booked the arrested under sections 307, 332, 333, 325, 323, 353, 147, 148, 294, 224, 436, 506 and 149 of the IPC.

It is alleged that 21 police officials were injured during the scuffle between the BJP members and the police.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of supporters of BJP Yuva Morcha flooded the Lower PMG Square in order to take out a mega rally in protest against the alleged lawlessness in the State particularly after the murder of Minister Naba Das.

The protestors were marching towards the Odisha Assembly which is in session now when the police personnel deployed there intercepted them.

Soon a scuffle broke out between the protestors and the police personnel. The police later resorted to lathi-charge to control the mob. Some protestors as well as police were injured in the scuffle.
