It is said that teachers play a crucial role in shaping a child’s future along with their respective parents. There is a school in Odisha’s Khallikote from where 21 students have now joined the Defence Forces and serving the country. On Teachers' Day, 11 of them planned a special event at Manikpur Government High School to pay respect to the teachers of the school who were instrumental in infusing a sense of discipline and dedication.

The Manikpur Government High School was established in the year 1939. It was some 30 years ago that the trend of joining the Armed Forces began and so far 21 students, who passed out from the school, have joined the armed forces - Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

“I joined the Indian Navy in 2010. As we are in service of the country, we had planned the event some 30 days back and it was executed well on Teachers’ Day,” said Dilip Patnaik.

Another pass out student said, “Some of us work in various states within the country and are working hard. There are 21 of us in the group; some of them could not attend due to prior schedules and duties.”

“We have called our teachers and worshipped them. The teachers had taught us well and it is due to their hard work that we have made our families proud. Some senior teachers could not attend the event due to health and other issues,” said Patnaik.

A teacher said, “It is really a proud moment for me as the students, whom I had taught, are now doing well and serving mother India.” "This will certainly inspire other students of the school and make the village proud," he added.
