There will be separate and exclusive arrangements in the upcoming general elections for the polling officials to cast their votes at their respective booths where they will be deployed.

The move is expected to address the issue pertaining to exercising the voting rights of polling officials, informed Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal.

Similarly, home voting arrangements will also be made for divyang, bedridden voters over 80 and below 40 years of age.

According to Dhal, all the pertinent preparations are being made as per the scheduled timeline. All the EVMs have been tested and reached their respective district centres. The first and second phases of preparations have been completed. The third and final phase of preparations is currently underway.

While no date for the same has been announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), confusion arose, after a notification by the Delhi CEO had informed "tentatively Poll Day as April 16, 2024... for the purpose of reference and to calculate Start and End dates in the Election Planner".

The letter from the Delhi CEO's office quickly went viral on social media, as India waits with bated breath to vote in what is considered the largest show of democracy in the world.

Moments later, the Delhi electoral officer's X handle posted a clarification that the date, 16 April, was in “reference for officials to plan activities as per Election Planner of ECI."
