As many as 20 girl students of a hostel in Koenjhar district fell ill after having food at the hospital. The students aged between 10 and 12 years are presently undergoing treatment at the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital (DHH).

According to a source, the inmates of Anwesha Hostel, near DD College, had their food and went to their school on Friday. At the prayer session at the school, they complained of feeling uneasy. Minutes later, they suffered from bouts of vomiting, diarrhoea and headache.
They were immediately rushed to the DHH where they are now undergoing treatment.

“After having rice and dalma, we went to school. We became sick at the prayer class. We were then rushed to the hospital,” said Kshitismita Bhoi, a student.

Explaining the situation, Khageswar Patra, a parent said, “We are yet to know what is the cause of their sickness. We are waiting for the test reports.”

When asked, Manoj Nayak, a hostel staffer, said, “On Friday they went to the school after having their food. They had rice and dalma. Upon returning from the school, they ran high temperature following which we admitted them to the DHH.”
