Taking note of the recent clash between two groups of inmates and the seizure of ganja and tobacco, the Odisha Jail authorities have now decided to shift 20 inmates of Jharpada jail to some other prisons.

A permission has been sought from the Court to shift Chakara and Shambu groups from Jharpada jail to other jails, informed Director General (DG) of Prisons AM Prasad.

According to Prasad, a report has been received in connection with the clash between the inmates. An investigation was also conducted by Jail DIG and Senior Superintendent after visiting Jharpada jail and the report has been submitted to the Home Department, he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, four inmates were reportedly injured following a clash between Chakara and Shambu gang. An inmate also allegedly lost his eye in the attack by his opponent groups inside the jail. A case in connection with the clash was also lodged with the local Laxmisagar Police station.

Later, the Commissionerate Police yesterday conducted a raid in Jharpada jail and seized some ganja and tobacco products.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities have issued directions for strengthening security measures inside jails in view of the upcoming elections in the state.
