A pall of gloom descended on Makapadar village under Rayagada’s Kashipur block after two minor siblings who had gone to work at a sea food processing plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam died soon after returning home.

The deceased have been identified as Gangadhar Majhi and Maheswar Majhi.

As per reports, they were found unconscious by the RPF personnel at Rayagada station while returning from Visakhapatnam. The sibling duo was taken to Rayagada hospital and Mohana hospital respectively, where they died within hours of each other while undergoing treatment.

Sources said the minor siblings had migrated from Odisha to work in a sea food processing plant at Palmanpeta under Visakhapatnam district three months back. However, they fell ill while working at the plant due to unknown reasons.

It is alleged that the plant authorities made them work harder without seeking medical advice for their health. When their health deteriorated further, they decided to return home. The duo borrowed money from their supervisor and boarded a train to return home, which turned out to be their last train ride.

Though the RPF personnel admitted them to the hospital for treatment, the siblings could not be saved.

The authorities were not available for comments in this matter.
