In a tragic mishap, as many as two labourers were killed and three others sustained critical injuries while laying a pipeline on Saturday afternoon. The incident was reported from Sunalati area under Itamati Police limits in Nayagarh.

The deceased have been identified as Sonu and Bijay Ganguly. The duo hailed from Maharashtra.

According to sources, the mishap took place when the labourers were engaged in the laying of GAIL India pipeline. 

A compressor suddenly exploded during the cleaning of the pipelines leaving 5 labourers critically injured. The injured were immediately rushed to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital where two of them were declared dead-on-arrival, sources informed.

“Suddenly a compressor went off while cleaning the pipeline. The pressure was so high that two labourers were blown away following the explosion. All the victims are from Maharashtra,” said an injured.

“Four labourers were brought to the hospital. While two of them were declared brought-dead, two others have been admitted and undergoing treatment. Their condition is stable,” said Dillip Bhoi, a doctor attending the victims.

Meanwhile, Itamati Police has launched an investigation into the matter. However, no comments could be obtained from GAIL India in this regard.
