Nandankanan Police detained two suspects on Tuesday following an incident involving the abduction and assault of a young man from the Barimunda locality of Bhubaneswar. Three more have been identified in connection with the case that took place last night.

CCTV footage of the abduction has surfaced in the meanwhile. Exclusive visuals that OTV accessed show the moment when Santosh was abducted, underscoring the deliberate nature of the crime. The victim Santosh Panda was forcibly taken away in a white-coloured vehicle with a number plate obscured by black tape. The abduction appears to be linked to a dispute over land.

Preliminary investigations by the police reveal that Santosh was taken near a school at Gandarpur, where he was subjected to a brutal crowbar attack. Subsequently, after being rescued by police, Santosh was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to his serious condition.

Santosh’s wife lodged an FIR with the Mancheswar Police, alleging that the incident also involved an attempt on his life. Further probe into the alleged attack is underway.

The grievous attack has left Santosh seriously wounded. He was attacked near Gandarpur riverbank with iron rods and shovel, sustaining severe injuries.

The victim was abducted while he was standing near Jaripatana Chhak. Four unidentified youths in the car forcibly took him. After moving away a short distance, they inflicted a brutal attack on his legs.

Local residents rushed to the site hearing a scream for help, prompting the attackers to flee. Nandankanan Police arrived shortly afterwards and initiated an investigation.

Santosh, a landed property dealer, had previously filed a court case over a Kalyanpur-based property of his relative valued at approximately Rs 5 Crore, which was allegedly acquired fraudulently by someone else. He had received threats warning him against pursuing the matter, with offers of money to drop the case.

Nandankanan Police continues to investigate the incident, striving to uncover further details and the motive behind the crime. “We are probing to gather more information,” a cop said.
