Two people were killed on Thursday while two others have been battling for their lives in a tragic road mishap on National Highway-16 under Soro police limits in Balasore district

The mishap occurred after a speeding truck rammed into a stationed hyva near Soro College Square early Thursday morning, reports said.

According to sources, the truck was en route to Khordha from Kolkata when the mishap occurred. The truck driver lost balance over the wheels of the vehicle and rammed into the hyva stationed near Soro College Square.

Four persons sitting inside the vehicle were trapped in between the two vehicles while the driver managed to escape after the incident. On being informed, local fire services personnel reached the spot and rescued the injured persons with the help of locals.

They were rushed to Soro hospital where doctors declared two of them dead. While the exact reason behind the accident was not known immediately, it is suspected that the driver dozed off thereby losing control over the truck.

A local eyewitness Rehmat Ali said, “We rushed to the spot after getting a call from the patrolling van about the road mishap. Soon, a fire tender team also reached the spot and we rescued two people and brought them to the hospital while two others had died. We came to know that they were on their way to Khordha from Kolkata to transport chicken.”

“We are not sure about the reason behind the accident, but maybe the driver was feeling sleepy that led to the accident,” he added.

Firoj Ahmed, who was also inside the truck said, “The vehicle was empty as we were going to bring chicken from Khordha.”
