A tragic incident unfolded in Barasingha Munda Sahi, under the jurisdiction of Balimi police in Dhenkanal district, where a young girl lost her life in a fire allegedly started by her father Babuli Sahu in an inebriated condition on Tuesday.

Sahu, who is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, set his house on fire after severely beating his wife and mother and driving them out.
The family's four-year-old son managed to escape, but tragically, his sister could not escape on time. The local police have arrested Sahu and are conducting further investigations into this devastating case.

“The incident seems to be a fallout of a family feud. The accused man set his house on fire following an altercation that had erupted between him and his wife. A 14-month-old baby was charred to death in the incident. A police case (No-66/2025) has been registered in this connection and a probe initiated,” Hindol SDPO, Satya Kumar Nanda said.
In another incident earlier in the day, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, as a fire claimed the life of a young male child at a Durga Puja pandal situated near Telephone Bhawan in Sector-6.
Witnesses reported that several children were playing inside the pandal when the inferno erupted. While many managed to flee to safety, the victim child unfortunately remained inside and succumbed to the flames.

The origins and rapid escalation of the massive fire remained ascertained, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation into the incident.
