In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the College Square area of Cuttack on Monday.

The girl has been admitted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.

An FIR in this connection was lodged at the Railway Police Station on Tuesday.

As per reports, the minor girl is an inmate of an orphanage in the College Square area. When she was returning from school, the miscreant allegedly raped her on the way.

A four-member team of the Railway Police led by a DCP-level officer has started an investigation into the incident. The statement of the victim has been recorded.

“We have registered a case in this connection. OIC Jyoti Prakash Nayak is investigating the case. Now the treatment of the victim is underway at the SCB medical,” said Cuttack Railway SP, Biranchi Prasad Dehury.

“We are also seeking details from the victim in this regard. We are trying to establish the identity of the accused and trace his whereabouts. We will follow all the procedures of the investigation to catch the accused,” he added.
