One labourer died and two others sustained critical injuries in a blast at Kalunga Subham steel plant in Rourkela in the wee hours on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Chinmay Behera from Jajpur. The injured persons have been identified as Jayprakash Kishan from Kalunga and Abhishek from Bihar.

Following the incident, the injured labourers were rushed to the nearby hospital. They are currently undergoing treatment and their condition is stated to be critical.

It is suspected that the blast occurred due to a suspected leakage in a gas pipe near the workers’ restroom inside the plant. The incident happened while the workers were deep asleep.

As per reports, police are yet to reach the spot and start an investigation into the incident.

As per reports, the explosion occurred in the plant around midnight. Around 100 people work in the private plant which functions on an irregular basis.

Local people expressed their concern over the indifferent attitude of the plant owner towards the safety measures of the workers. The company officials could not be contacted over the incident.
