"I am a female MP and I am not safe in my parliamentary constituency. From now onward, if anything bad happens at my meeting place, the state government will be responsible for that," said BJP’s Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Sunday.

Taking a swipe at the state government, Parliamentarian Sarangi said she has been facing opposition in her parliamentarian constitution for the last three days.

"Last 3 days, 3 incidents; Sponsored hooligans tried to prevent me from discharging my duties as an MP in Bhubaneswar. Got to know that unsocial elements will disturb my meeting at Athantar-today evening. Hon'ble CM & his Govt would be responsible for any untoward incident," she tweeted.

“Whenever I go to my area to meet people and listen to their issues, some people are protesting me. This has happened continuously for the last three days. I will call this nothing but hooliganism. The government has been intimated that my security is its responsibility. Even after that, if any disturbance is staged in a pre-planned manner at my meeting place, the state government will be held responsible for that and I will stage a dharna then and there. If the past incidents are taken into consideration, I can say I am not safe in my parliamentary constituency,” Sarangi said.

Responding to Sarangi’s allegations, BJD spokesperson Srimayee Mishra said, “It surprises me that whenever any voter asks her anything, she gets irritated. She is even terming it as hooliganism. If you are branding your voters as hooligans, it means hooligans have voted you to power.”

Earlier in the day, when the BJP’s Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi was on her way to Jayadev Assembly constituency to attend an event at Athantara Panchayat, some Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers put up a strong opposition to her.

The situation came to such a pass that a scuffle ensued between the BJP and BJD workers with the police choosing to be mere mute spectators.

“Without any reason, some hired ruffians are opposing MP Aparajita Sarangi. The BJP will treat such oppositions with iron-fist,” said a BJP supporter.

Echoing the same, another BJP supporter Binodini Mishra said, “I think they (the BJD) are getting apprehensive of Madam (MP Aparajita Sarangi)’s popularity.”
