While the Crime Branch is yet reveal suspended ASI Gopal Das’ motive behind killing minister Naba Das, Jharsuguda Additional Sessions Judge court’s judgement on the shunted cop’s mental health has further escalated the ongoing political slugfest in Odisha.

In its judgment which was passed on March 3, the court made it clear that Gopal is mentally sound.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) and senior BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra has again trained his guns at the ruling BJD and alleged, “The person who had given 'Supari' to Gopal Das to eliminate the minister had also assured that no action will be taken against him.”

“The State government-constituted medical board report has confirmed Gopal’s mental condition is stable. Indian judiciary has a provision to relax punishment for mentally unsound persons. Now it is quite clear why police are trying to prove Gopal is mentally unstable,” Mishra added.

“Police do not want to find out who is behind the murder and what the motive was. The Odisha government is making all possible efforts to save him," the saffron party leader alleged.

Similarly, senior Congress leader came out with an explosive statement and claimed Gopal had approached Naba Das for a job for his niece.

“I am yet to understand why the Odisha government is trying to safeguard the accused. The Crime Branch is making all arrangements to shield the accused. This is really unfortunate,” Mishra said.

"Gopal Das had approached Naba Das requesting for a job for her niece. Something bad might have happened at that time forcing the family members to hatch a conspiracy against the minister. It will be clear if Gopal's niece is questioned," Mishra added.

Commenting on the allegations, BJD MLA Sashi Bhusan Behera said the court’s judgement of Gopal Das mental health condition has laid the allegations of the Opposition to the rest.

“The court judgement has made it clear that Gopal is not mentally unstable. The BJD is ready to face all the investigation process,” Behera said.
