Students at Binapanjuri government upper primary school in Jatni block of Khordha district on Saturday were allegedly served rotten eggs for mid-day meal, sparking tension in the area.

Though the students were supposed to get eggs under the mid-day meal scheme yesterday, the students had to return home hungry as the quality of eggs was allegedly unsatisfactory. All the eggs were rotten, reports said.

Several parents alleged that there has been irregularities and serious corruption in the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme at the school.

"I along with my friend were distributing the eggs when we found out that the eggs were rotten. When we informed the teachers, they asked us to report to other officials," said a student.

"Rotten eggs are being provided to students. The teachers are not looking after the students and management at the school. Though the school was supposed to get over at 12:30, it was closed at 10:30 am," alleged a guardian.

Meanwhile, the school headmaster and block education officer could not be contacted over the allegations.
