'Medical negligence' linked to pregnant woman's death at Odisha hospital 

The family members of a pregnant woman, who died at the new Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH) on Sunday night, have alleged medical negligence. 

As per reports, Manjulata Ghadei, wife of Abhimanyu Ghadei, a resident of the Biridi area under Agarpada Police limits, complained of labour pain on Sunday. Her family members immediately rushed her to Agarpada Community Health Centre (CHC). Later, she was shifted to Bhadrak DHH. 

At the DHH, she was taken into the operation theatre (OT). Moments later, she was taken out of the OT. Despite writhing in pain, treatment was not provided to her, alleged family members.

Later, she breathed her last. Aggrieved family members held the doctor and nurses on duty at that time responsible for her death. For some time, the relatives of the deceased woman created a ruckus at the hospital, demanding action against the doctors and staff nurses on duty.  

“My wife died because of the negligence of doctors and staff nurses. At the time of admission, they had gone through the reports of my wife. If my wife had any problem, the doctors should have told me after verifying all the documents,” said the victim's husband, Abhimanyu. 

A relative of the deceased, Padmavati Das said, “We demand justice. We also demand action against the doctors and nurses on duty on Sunday night.” 

No reaction was received from the concerned hospital authorities.
