DJ Sound Menace
With the festive season around the corner, concerns are now being expressed over rampant noise pollution, particularly during immersion ceremonies in which high decibel-DJ music is played. The recent incident of a heart stroke and several persons falling sick due to the high decibel sound of DJ music is just a wake-up call.
Several studies suggest that loud music increases the risk of heart attack. Any sound at or above 85 decibels is more likely to damage hearing over time. The sound from the DJ music system is over 100 to 120 decibels. Such sound can be dangerous for the human ears and it can affect the nerves of the brain and heart leading to brain strokes and heart attacks.
Experts say that people should avoid going near the DJ sound systems and they should not be in the area where loud music is playing for more than 10 to 15 minutes.
“People should not get close to the DJ sound boxes and get exposed to more than 10 to 12 minutes in the area. It may affect hearing capacity of people in the long run,” said Dr Radhamadhav Sahu, an ENT specialist.
Not only humans, high-decibel DJ music is also dangerous for plants and animals as well, said environmentalist Jaykrushna Panigrahi
Odisha State Pollution Control Board officials said that directions have already been issued from 2021 to Collectors and SPs to clamp restrictions on DJ systems emitting over 65 decibel-sound.
With loud DJ music hazards lurking, a letter will again be issued to the district Collectors and SPs for taking stern action against violators, informed Niranjan Mallick, chief scientist, the State Pollution Control Board.
Meanwhile, the Jatani Puja Committee recently took a decision to restrict the use of DJ music systems emitting loud sound during the Ganesh puja immersion ceremony.
