The cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ (pronounced as Hamoon) intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over Northwest Bay of Bengal on the wee hours of Tuesday.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) ‘Hamoon’ centered over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards with a speed of 18 kmph during past 6 hours.
It intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and lay centered at 2:30 am of October 24 over northwest Bay of Bengal about 210 km east-southeast of Paradip in Odisha, 270 km south-southeast of Digha in West Bengal and 350 km south-southwest of Khepupara in Bangladesh, the IMD informed.
IMD scientist Umashankar Das informed that 'Hamoon' will further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next six hours.
It is very likely to move nearly north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the noon of October 25 as a Deep Depression.
As very Rough to high sea condition is prevailing and likely to continue till October 24 and it may become rough to very rough on October 25, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and Westcentral &North Bay of Bengal till October 25.

Day-1: (Valid from 8:30 am of 24.10.2023 to 8:30 am of 25.10.23): Light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and at a few places over the rest of the districts of coastal Odisha. The districts of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj may also see moderate to light rain.
Day-2:(Valid from 8:30 am of 25.10.2023 to 8:30 am of 26.10.23: Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Boudh. Dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest of the districts of Odisha.
Day-3:(Valid from 8:30 am of 26.10.2023 to 8:30 am of 27.10.2023): Light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places obver the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak. Dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest of the districts of Odisha.
Day-4:(Valid from 8:30 am of 27.10.2023 to 8:30 am of 28.10.2023): Dry weather is very likely to prevail over Odisha.
On the west coast, very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) TEJ crossed Yemen coast near 15.9 N/52.15E close to south of Al Ghaidah during 2:30 and 3:30 am of October 24 as a VSCS with maximum sustained wind speed reaching 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph.
