In a shocking incident, a racket allegedly involved in the preparation of duplicate Srimandir Mahaprasad (Abadha/offering) was exposed at Paika Sahi in Puri on Friday.

As per reports, elaborate arrangements were found inside a tent set up in the backyard of a building in Paika Sahi for preparation of food to be sold as Abadha. Hundreds of Kodua (earthen pots) loaded with cooked Anna, Dal, and other dishes like in Abadha were spotted at the location.

As per reports, those involved in this racket defrauded devotees by claiming that they are providing Abadha outside since the Mahaprasad was not being prepared in Srimandir in view of the 'Anasara Ghara' (quarantine) stay of the deities.

Resentment peaked following the discovery of duplicate Mahaprasad.

A servitor, Hajuri Krushnachandra Khuntia said, “I am speechless. I do not know how to condemn this incident. It is a sin. Whoever has done this will definitely get punished by God. The Supakara Servitors cook the food with utmost devotion. Then Servitors conduct Shodasa Upachara Puja and only after that the food turns into Mahaprasad and sold to the devotees.”

“Those, who are cooking food outside and selling them to unsuspecting devotees as Mahaprasad, have committed great sins. The SJTA should take stringent action against them,” he said.

Traditionally, Jagannath followers hold Abadha in the highest esteem because its preparation is considered very sacred. It has an indispensable role in all rituals of Odia life and culture. But the sale of duplicate Abadha that too in Puri has shocked all.

Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief, Ranjan Kumar Das said, “We will conduct an enquiry once we get complaint in this regard.”
