Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: State CID, Crime Branch today formed an eight-member special investigation team to conduct a detailed inquiry into the obscene posts with lewd remarks along with the photographs of few students of Ramadevi University on Facebook.

The development came after Odisha Government ordered a Crime Branch probe into the defamation of the innocent girl students of the premier educational institution of the State.

Crime Branch officials said the team comprising five senior officials including two lady inspectors have been entrusted to conduct the investigation from today.

Already the FIR that was initially registered with Sahid Nagar Police was also transferred to the cyber police station in Cuttack, said a senior police official.

Earlier, a student delegation from several colleges in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack had met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and apprised him on the issue.

“We had met the Chief Minister and had demanded a Crime Branch probe as several students are mentally disturbed after their pictures with objectionable remarks were posted on the Facebook,” said Gauriprava Satpathy, a student.

The pictures of RD varsity students have been misused by Arohi creations and the students’ delegation had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding a detailed inquiry into the incident and action against those involved in the crime.

The students have welcomed the Crime Branch inquiry and are hopeful that the culprits would be punished for such an offence.

“CM expressed concern over the misuse of pictures of girl students by Arohi creations and assured of stern action against those involved in the heinous act,” said BJD MLA and President of Biju Chatra Janta Dal (BCJD), Byomkesh Ray.
