At a time when the Bahanaga train tragedy, which claimed 288 lives and left over 1000 injured, is still fresh in people’s mind, a purported video showing a MEMU train and a goods train approaching each other on the same track in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur went viral on Sunday, sending a shiver down the spines of many.

There were two trains-a goods train and a MEMU train-on the same track at a place between Jairam Nagar and Kotmi Sonar in Bilaspur of Chhatisgarh. The two trains were a few meters away. The video of the entire incident went viral. From the video, it seems a Bahanaga-like train tragedy has been averted.

But the fact was that there was not that accident-like situation as perceived.

According to chief public relation officer of South East Central Railway, Saket Ranjan, “In the viral video, a goods train is being seen behind a MEMU train. But what is the fact is that MEMU train has engines on both ends. And there is a goods train behind it. So it seems both the trains are approaching towards each other. But it is not that.”

Notably, after the Bahanaga triple train mishap, some minor accidents are being reported. In the latest, a wagon of a coal-laden goods train caught fire near Radhakishorepur station in Athagarh of Cuttack district late Saturday night. The coal-laden goods train was on its way to Khordha from Talcher. The freight train had arrived at the Radhakishorepur station at 8 pm yesterday.

After an intense operation,  a team of Odisha fire services department personnel tamed the flames.
