In what is expected to boost and further enhance railway network in Odisha, the Indian Railways will extend the operation of Vande Bharat Express trains to Puri.

During his visit to the pilgrim town, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently announced that 75 Vande Bharat Express trains will connect every corner of the country in 75 weeks of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

“Puri is one of the popular tourist and religious destinations in the world and assumes rich cultural importance. Already the Puri station development work is underway and bringing Vande Bharat Express to Puri is on the cards. We hope it will materialise soon,” said Vaishnaw.

It is pertinent to mention here that PM Modi in his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort had said, “The country has resolved that 75 Vande Bharat trains will be connecting every corner of the country in 75 weeks of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence.”

Vande Bharat is a Shatabdi-type train of semi high speed which offers better amenities and comfort to the passengers. The amenities include- onboard infotainment and GPS based passenger information system, CCTV, automatic sliding doors with retractable coach footsteps and zero discharge vacuum-based bio-toilets.

At present only two Vande Bharat Express trains operational in the country by the Indian Railways. The first Vande Bharat Express runs between Varanasi and New Delhi while the second Vande Bharat Express operates between Katra and New Delhi.
