In a major decision, the Central Government on Wednesday increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners.

As per the latest announcement, the DA for central government staff and Dearness Relief for pensioners have been hiked by 4 percent by the Cabinet. The DA hike will be implemented from July 1, 2023 said Union Minister Anurag Thakur while informing about the cabinet decision.

With this, the dearness allowance has been increased to 46 percent from 42 percent.

"During this festive season, a decision has been taken for the interest of the central government employees by hiking the DA and dearness relief for the pensioners. Crores of central government employees and pensioners will benefit from the DA hike," said Thakur.

According to Thakur, the combined impact on the exchequer would be Rs 12,815.60 crore per annum.
