Six months after he was arrested in connection with a disproportionate assets case, tainted former IFS officer Abhay Pathak was released from the Jharpada jail on Friday after securing bail in the case.

Pathak had been arrested in the case on November 27 last year after the State Vigilance Department initiated an inquiry into his assets which the agency found disproportionate to his known sources of income. Pathak along with his son was subsequently booked for two more cheating cases for which the former secured bail recently.

He has been charged for cheating a Bhubaneswar-based travel agency of lakhs of rupees for undertaking his whirlwind tours and stay at luxurious hotels in several cities of the country by using chartered planes for travels.
