Odisha-born senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satya Narayan Pradhan has been appointed as Director General (DG) of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Thursday. He has been appointed on deputation till the date of his superannuation on August 31, 2024, or until further orders.

Pradhan was posted as NDRF DG prior to his deputation to the NCB.

A 1988 batch IAS officer from Jharkhand cadre, Pradhan is still serving as the DG, NDRF along with the additional charge as DG In-charge of the NCB following placement of senior IAS Rakesh Asthana as Delhi Police Commissioner.

Meanwhile, 1988-batch Gujarat cadre IPS officer Atul Karwal was on Tuesday appointed as NDRF Director-General in place of Pradhan. Later, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) in a late Wednesday order appointed Pradhan as Director-General of NCB on a full-time basis.
