Ratan Tata’s death creates a deep void: Who will now lead Tata Group?

Ratan Tata, the esteemed chairman emeritus of the Tata Group, has passed away in Mumbai. His passing raises questions about future leadership as he had no children. Currently led by N Chandrasekharan, several potential successors are considered, including Noel Tata and his children Leah, Maya, and Neville. Each holds significant roles within the group.

Tata Group’s chairman emeritus and veteran industrialist Ratan Tata passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Now with Ratan Tata’s demise and as he has no children of his own, a significant question has cropped up- who will lead the Tata Group?

Though N Chandrasekharan is leading the Tata Sons since 2017, several names are now cropping up for the potential successor.

Noel Tata: Ratan Tata’s half-brother is a strong contender for the future leadership. Noel, the son of Naval Tata from his second marriage, holds important positions within the group and played a key role in making Tata’s retail arm-Trent a successful venture. 

Besides, Noel Tata’s children- Leah, Maya and Neville are also believed to be among the forerunners in the next generation leadership.

Leah Tata: A masters in Marketing from IE Business School in Madrid, Leah joined the Tata Group in 2006. She is presently serving as the Vice President of the hospitality arm of the Tata Group- The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL).

Maya Tata: She started her career at Tata Capital as an analyst. According to reports Maya played a key role in the launch of Tata Neu app. With her increasing prominence within the group, she is likely to play a key role in the future.

Neville Tata: The youngest child of Neol Tata, Neville began his career at Trent and currently leading the Star Bazaar. With his prominent business acumen, he may be given a crucial role within the group.
