Good news for train passengers as they will not have to carry food with them while undertaking long distance journeys as the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is all set to resume serving cooked meals on all trains.

As per reports, cooked meals on all trains of Indian Railways will be resumed by February 14, 2022. It is pertinent to mention here that the cooked meal service was stopped owing to Covid-19 restrictions since March 2020.

In a report published by Hindustan Times, the services of providing cooked meals will resume from February 14. Food is already being served in 428 trains. “Of the total number of trains, cooked food had already been restored in 30% by Dec 21', 80% by Jan 22' and the remaining 20% shall be restored by February 14, 2022.

Cooked food on premium trains (Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto) had already been restored in December 21. Ready to eat meals would also continue, the report added. IRCTC in a statement said ready-to-eat meal service was started in August last year. Cooked food services were restored in 80% of trains in January, 2022.
