Fresher students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College in Indore, Madhya Pradesh have brought up serious allegations of ragging, sexual harassment and assault against their seniors.

“We are being forced to have ‘s*x’ with pillows and abuse our fellow girl classmates,” the students alleged. The first year students accused their seniors (mostly third year students) of the heinous crime.

The horror of ragging came to the fore after the first year students lodged a complaint with the Anti Ragging Helpline. They contacted the Anti Ragging Helpline of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and narrated their ordeal.

In the complaint, the victims alleged that their seniors forced them to perform indecent and obscene acts, including unnatural s*x. The seniors then forced them to take the name of any of their female classmates and make derogatory remarks about her.

Swinging into action, the UGC’s anti-ragging unit directed the MGMMC dean, asking him to lodge an FIR. Following the orders, the matter was handed over to the police for appropriate action.

"An aggrieved student had complained to the UGC's anti-ragging helpline a few days ago. Following this, a meeting of the anti-ragging committee was convened immediately on receiving the mail. The committee endorsed an FIR and a letter was sent to the police,” MGM Medical College Dean Dr Sanjay Dixit said.

Speaking on the matter, Sanyogita Ganj police station in-charge Tehzeeb Qazi said, "We have registered a case of ragging on the complaint of MGM College. 8 to 10 students have been booked under Sections 294, 323, 506 of the Anti Ragging Act.”
