The Odisha government has relaxed the eligibility criteria for promotions within the Police administration. 

It approved one-time reduction in the service requirement prescribed under Rule 650 (a) (ii) of the Orissa Police Manual in response to a proposal submitted by the State Police Headquarters, Odisha, Cuttack after consideration of the same.

The period of continuous service, as on January 1, 2024, for persons who have successfully completed the Sub-Inspector training course shall be lowered to 7 years for promotion from Sub-Inspector to Inspector of Police. 

The relaxation shall come into effect from the date of its issue.

“After careful consideration of the proposal of State Police Headquarters, Odisha. Cuttack, the Government have been pleased to relax the eligibility criteria prescribed under Rule-650(a)(ii) of Orissa Police Manual Rule on a one-time basis from 10 (ten) years to 07(seven) years of continuous service as on 01.01 .2024 rendered in the rank of Sub-Inspector of Police, after passing the the S.I.s course of training, for consideration of their promotion to the rank of Inspector of Police. 2. This shall come into effect from the date of issue,” the official notification read.
