Koraput: Amid Covid lockdown restrictions, alleged trafficking of labourers have once again exposed the plights of migrants in the State. This time, as many as 18 labourers were detained by B. Singpur police while they were boarding a bus from Nuaguda village in Katharagada panchayat of Koraput district to Trichur area in Tamil Nadu.

After a preliminary investigation, police revealed that the labourers were travelling to Tamil Nadu to work at a textile factory.
Soon after, officials of district labour administration and Borigumma SDPO reached the spot to initiate a probe into the incident.

Sources said all of them were being trafficked without any license and Covid test. DLO Prasanna Kumar Panigrahi informed that they would be released after necessary document verification and Covid test.

It may be mentioned here that Koraput district is one of the heavily migration-hit districts in Odisha from where thousands of people move to other places in Odisha and outside in search of livelihood.
