In a major employment boost, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched Rozgar Mela which is expected to provide 10 lakh jobs in 12 months. 

On the occasion, appointment letters were given to 75,000 new appointees to mark the 75th years of Independence. In the next phase, employment will be given to youth, pan India.

Beginning his address at the mega recruitment drive by congratulating the newly-inducted appointees, the PM said, “Remember, you have been appointed to serve the public of this nation. This is an opportunity extended to you which should be taken as a commitment to serve.”

“In the last 8 years, we have devised many initiatives to increase employment opportunities for the youth. Rozgar Mela is one such step for our youth,” he said.

The PM said in the next phase of Rozgar Mela, employment will be provided to the youth, pan India.

The PM said there was a time when there were challenges right from application process during recruitment and the government worked at every front to make the process easy and transparent.

“The agricultural sector, private sector, small scale industries, are currently the largest employing sectors in India. Manufacturing and Tourism are two of the biggest emerging sectors that have a lot of job opportunities for the youth of this country,” the PM said.

The PM described cottage industry as another pillar of India's growth and said for the first time, Khadi and cottage industry is valued at over Rs 1 lakh crore with over 1 crore jobs being created. 

“From 5G launch to employment through CSCs in villages, India is now connected & is working at a fast pace towards India's techade... It is interesting to see that among the 70 lakh EPFO account holders, around 8 lakh people are of the age group of 18-25,” he added.

The mega recruitment drive was organised at 50 locations across the country. In Odisha, the drive was organised in twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. 

Attending the event in Bhubaneswar, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and MP Aparajita Sarangi handed over appointment letters to 239 new recruits.

"Today we handed over appointment letters to 239 new recruits. This is just the begining and the recruitment drive will gain momentum in coming days," Pradhan said.

"Today is a big day for our country. Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation. In coming months, 10 lakh people will be recruited in various departments. I feel proud that Bhubaneswar has been chosen as one of the locations for the recruitment drive," said Sarangi. 

Similarly, Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu graced the occasion in Cuttack and distrbuted appoitment letters to the newly-appointed candidates.  

"To mark the completion of 75 years of independence, appointment letters have been handed over to 75,000 appointees across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly stated that 10 lakh people will be recruited within one year," Tudu said.
