The famous Nandanakanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar is set to throw its gates open for visitors from Tuesday (August 3) after remaining off-limits to the public for three months in the wake of the surge in cases of Covid-19. Director of the Nandanakanan, Manoj Mohapatra informed about the decision to reopen the zoo after taking stock of the situation today.

"As the State government has allowed reopening of zoos after the new unlock guidelines we hope to complete all the allied arrangements by Monday so that Nandankanan can be reopened from Tuesday," Mohapatra told in his reaction to OTV.

He further mentioned that since a comparatively limited number of guests would visit the zoo due to relatively tighter Covid restrictions in force in Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the zoo administration has planned that tourists will only be allowed for sightseeing of enclosures but amenities like boating, safari will be slowly restored.

Looking at the scenario, a restricted number of visitors would be allowed entry into the zoo each day initially. The number of tourists would be gradually increased with more relaxations and easing of Covid pandemic.
