The Jeypore Police on Friday busted a major dacoit gang as part of its intense crackdown against criminals and anti-socials in the city. The 16-member dacoit gang also has nine minors, Jeypore SDPO informed during a press conference today.

Numerous valuable items like swords, cloaks, chloroform sprays, sharp and pointed instruments, mobiles, laptops, TVs, gold jewellery from the possession of the gang. The police have also confiscated grocery items worth around Rs 7 lakh from the criminals.

As per sources, police had formed special teams to nab the miscreants after frequent complaints regarding dacoity, robbery in several places of the western town. The teams prepared a blueprint and collected valuable information on secret hideouts of the miscreants.

Simultaneous raids were conducted at various places based on the inputs and the anti-socials were arrested, informed Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhisekh Behera. In the wake of a rise in cases of thefts, three special teams led by Jeypore Sadar Police IIC, Jeypore Town Police IIC were formed on the direction of Koraput SP.

A total of 16 people including nine juveniles have been apprehended in two cases of theft and robbery in Jeypore Town, two cases in Sadar and one case in Sunabeda police limits area, said Behera.
