A class 10 student along with his mother made a joint bid to end life by self-immolation outside the residence of the School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday after the boy was allegedly denied to fill forms for appearing offline standard 10 exams.

High drama unfolded outside the minister's residence today morning when the minor boy and his mother took out a bottle with some inflammable liquid substance (said to be Kerosene) suspected with an intent to commit self-immolation.

However, they were prevented from taking any extreme step by the security personnel who were deployed at the official quarters of the minister. The duo was overpowered and subsequently taken to Capital Police Station for interrogation.

The woman has alleged that despite repeated attempts, the authorities of the Capital School in Bhubaneswar did not fill up the registration form of her son for the special offline exams which are scheduled to commence from July 30.

After staging a dharna outside the Capital School yesterday, they made an attempt to meet the Education Minister today but when they were refused, the duo resorted to taking such a step.

As per the allegations by the woman, her son has passed the annual HSC examination with second class but he is dissatisfied with his marks and he so wants to appear the offline exam.

"By July 10, I and my son had been to the school on multiple occasions to fill-up the form but now the teachers are refusing to accept the truth and are instead blaming us. I demand that the teachers be suspended from their service and steps be taken to help secure the future of my child," she said.
