The Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar will remain closed for visitors for five days from December 30, 2021, Zoo Deputy Director Sanjeet Kumar informed on Wednesday.
As per a notification issued by the Zoo authorities, the decision to close Nandankanan from December 30 to January 3, 2022, has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent massive crowding of visitors who are expected to throng the zoo during the New Year revelries.
Apart from the Zoo, the adjacent Botanical Garden will also remain off the limits for people during the above-mentioned days.
Amid concerns over a surge in cases of Omicron, a new highly infectious variant of SARS-CoV-2 having the potential to cause another wave of the pandemic, the Odisha government has ordered strict curbs on public gatherings especially during the festive period of the New Year.
Various public places like temples and tourist sites have enforced entry bans on people venturing out to celebrate the year-end and New Year time with families and friends.
