Mock Drill to resume again: 4 states bordering Pakistan to hold civil defence drills tomorrow

The Government of India has announced that civil defence mock drills will be conducted on Thursday, May 29, across four states bordering Pakistan. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bolster emergency preparedness following the recent Operation Sindoor and the subsequent ceasefire agreement.

States Involved and Drill Details

The drills are scheduled to take place in the border states of Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. These drills aim to enhance civilian readiness and ensure coordinated responses in the event of potential emergencies.

Background: Operation Sindoor and Previous Drills

Earlier this month, India conducted Operation Sindoor, a series of military strikes targeting locations in Pakistan-administered territories, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

Following the operation, a nationwide civil defence mock drill, codenamed Operation Abhyaas, was conducted on May 7 across 244 districts, marking the most extensive such exercise since the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Public Advisory

Authorities have advised residents in the aforementioned states to remain calm during the drills and to follow instructions from local officials.

The exercises will include air raid sirens, blackout simulations, and evacuation protocols. Citizens are urged not to panic and to treat the drills as precautionary measures aimed at enhancing collective security and preparedness.
