Mamata Banerjee is a LIAR, says BJP's Amit Malviya over 'letter politics'
The brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 has triggered widespread protests across India.
In response, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee shared a letter on her ‘X’ platform on Friday.
She sent this letter to the Prime Minister of India. In her post, she shared photocopies of the letter and wrote in the caption, “I have written this letter to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India in connection with an earlier letter of mine. This is a second letter in that reference.”
Responding to this on his X handle, Amit Malviya, co-incharge of BJP in West Bengal and party’s National Information & Technology Department claimed that, “Mamata Banerjee is a LIAR,” and noted that in her letter, she stated that the West Bengal government had not set up any Fast Track Courts for rape and POCSO cases.
Malviya quoted a part of the letter where it said: “A scheme for Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) was launched in October 2019 to expedite trials of rape and POCSO cases. By June 30, 2024, there were 752 FTSCs functioning in 30 states and UTs, including 409 exclusive POCSO Courts. West Bengal was allocated 123 FTSCs, but none were operational until mid-June 2023. By June 30, 2024, only 6 POCSO Courts were operational, and 11 FTSCs are still pending. The state has 48,600 pending cases, but no steps have been taken to start the remaining FTSCs.”

Malviya demanded that Mamata Banerjee should explain why the state government has not implemented these courts.
“Stop writing letters. ANSWER the questions. You are ACCOUNTABLE,” tweeted Malviya.
