Dowry Death
In a horrifying case of domestic violence and dowry harassment, a woman identified as Nikki was allegedly beaten, set on fire, and left to die by her husband and in-laws in Sirsa village, Greater Noida. The chilling incident, captured on video, has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against dowry-related crimes.
According to Nikki’s elder sister, Kanchan, who is also married into the same family, the abuse began just six months after Nikki’s marriage in 2016. She revealed that the family repeatedly demanded Rs 36 lakh as dowry and subjected both sisters to relentless physical and mental torture.
On Thursday night, Nikki was brutally assaulted in front of her child. Videos show her husband, Vipin, dragging her by the hair, his body stained with blood. Moments later, Nikki is seen walking down the stairs engulfed in flames, her body covered in severe burns, as someone throws water to douse the fire.
Kanchan, recalling the trauma, said she tried to save her sister but collapsed during the ordeal. Nikki’s young son confirmed, “They poured something on mumma, slapped her, and set her ablaze using a lighter.”
Police said Nikki died while being shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. A case has been registered based on Kanchan’s complaint, and Vipin has been arrested. Efforts are on to trace the father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, who remain on the run.
This shocking case once again exposes the harsh reality of dowry violence in India, underscoring the urgent need for strict enforcement of laws and community awareness to prevent such tragedies.
