At least 11 coaches of a goods train derailed near Sivalingapuram in the early hours of Thursday severely affecting the train service on the route.

As per initial reports, the train was en route to Araku from Kothavalasa when the coaches derailed at around 5.50 am. However, the reason behind the train derailment was not known immediately.

Following the derailment, Visakhapatnam-Jagdalpur passenger train which passes through Koraput had to be cancelled from both directions. This apart, the movement of many other goods trains was also cancelled from both directions, reports said.

As per reports, there have been no reports of any casualties following the mishap. On being informed, a rescue team, technical team, electrical section, and track derail management team from Koraput swung into action and rushed to the mishap spot.

Similarly, a rescue team from Vishakhapatnam is also on its way to the mishap site, reports said adding the teams will initially try to repair the damaged tracks and resume train services as soon as possible.

However, there are high chances of cancellation of Visakhapatnam-Jagdalpur Express train today evening as the repair work might take quite some time, reports added.
