Bank holidays in Sept 2025

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that banks nationwide will remain closed on 15 days in September 2025. These holidays are scheduled under the Negotiable Instruments Act, along with planned RTGS breaks, and various national and regional festivals.

The September holiday calendar includes major festivals like Durga Puja, Onam, and Milad un-Nabi, in addition to routine closures — all Sundays, the second Saturday, and the fourth Saturday will remain non-working days for bank branches.

Impact On Customers

With branches expected to remain closed on these days, customer service at counters may be disrupted. People are therefore advised to review the official list of dates before planning in-person banking, especially where cash deposits, withdrawals, or document handling are concerned.

Services That Continue

Even when branches shut their doors, the banking system is not at a complete halt. Digital platforms and self-service facilities will remain functional, offering a wide range of essential operations:

  • Internet and mobile banking for transactions, bill payments, and account queries

  • RTGS and NEFT services within their operational hours

  • ATM withdrawals and card-based transactions

  • Online applications for chequebooks, demand drafts, and account services
