Father and son set to make history at Delhi Republic Day parade

For the first time in India's Republic Day history, a father-son duo, Lieutenant General Bhavanish Kumar and Lieutenant Ahaan Kumar, will participate in the Delhi parade. Lt Gen Kumar leads the parade, while Lt Ahaan commands the 61 Cavalry Horse Regiment, continuing their family's proud military legacy.

In an unprecedented moment in India's Republic Day history, a father-son duo is to participate in the Delhi parade for the first time. Lieutenant General Bhavanish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Delhi area, will be joined by his son, Lieutenant Ahaan Kumar, who serves as the Contingent Commander of the 61 Cavalry.

Lieutenant General Kumar is set to have the prestigious role of leading the parade, while Lieutenant Ahaan will command the renowned Horse Regiment. This occasion is particularly significant as Lieutenant Ahaan represents the third generation in his family to commit to military service, highlighting a proud legacy within the Indian Army.

A Meaningful Moment for the Kumar Family

For the Kumars, partaking in the Republic Day parade is deeply symbolic, reflecting a longstanding dedication to serving the nation. Speaking on this honour, Lieutenant General Bhavanish Kumar stated, “Lt Ahaan Kumar is part of the third generation of officers. Seeing the young officers, our soldiers, and Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) filled with enthusiasm fills us with pride. Their energy and dedication bring us joy.”

Lt Ahaan Kumar expressed his emotions, saying it feels like an honour to march alongside his father and continue the family's military ethos. “It’s a matter of pride for me and my family,” he commented.
