The indigenous Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbine developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is a crucial advancement for the Indian Army, offering a lightweight, compact, and highly manoeuvrable weapon optimized for urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations.

The weapon's 5.56x45mm NATO calibre, effective range of 200 meters, and accuracy (90% of shots within 15x15 cm at 100m) make it a superior replacement for the older 9mm Sterling carbines.

The carbine's development highlights India's growing self-reliance in defense technology and its ability to produce advanced weaponry domestically.
