BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda on Saturday met President-elect Draupadi Murmu and congratulated her for emerging victorious in the Presidential poll.

Wishing Murmu a successful tenure at the highest office of the country, Panda said her journey would inspire the generations to come.

“I was in Assam. Like other parts of the country, Assam also celebrated Draupadi Murmu’s victory in a grand way. She is not only the pride of our nation, but her win has sent a strong message to the other countries,” Panda said.

Murmu's journey to Raisina Hill is an inspiring and a shining example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempt to empower each and every section of the society, the saffron party leader stated.

Notably,  64-year old Murmu is the first tribal President and the second woman after Pratibha Patil to hold the top office. She is slated to be sworn in as the President of India on 25 July 25 2022.

Born on June 20, 1958 in the Santhal community, Murmu began her political career as a councillor in Rairangpur notified area council in tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district in 1997.

She rose through the ranks to become a minister in Odisha's BJD-BJP coalition government from 2000 to 2004.

The two-time MLA was appointed as the first woman governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
