Doctors to provide OPD services on road as nation-wide strike continues over Kolkata rape-murder

Resident doctors from AIIMS and other Delhi hospitals will provide free OPD services outside Nirman Bhawan from 19th August. The Resident Doctors Association announced this amidst a nation-wide strike demanding justice for Abhaya and better security through a Central Protection Act.

Doctors to provide OPD services on road as nation-wide strike continues over Kolkata rape-murder

Resident doctors of AIIMS and other Delhi Hospitals will be providing free OPD services on the road in front of the Health Ministry at Nirman Bhawan from 19th August until they are assured of adequate security in hospitals through a Central Protection Act.

The Resident Doctors Association, AIIMS, made this announcement as the nation-wide protest continues demanding justice for 'Abhaya'.

“Resident doctors will be available for providing Elective OPD services of around 36 specialties including Medicine, Surgery, Obs&Gynae, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics and others to patients outside Nirman Bhawan,” the association said through a press release.

It further added that the strike will continue until their demands are addressed.

“As discussed with the Action Committee for Central Protection Act and the general body of RDA AIIMS, it was unanimously decided to continue the strike, as our demands remains unaddressed. This includes halting academic activities, elective OPDS, ward and OT services, while maintaining emergency services, ICUs, emergency procedures and emergency OT,” the press release added.

“We will provide the patient care services in the nation’s interest and as per our Hippocratic oath. We want to highlight the lack of security of healthcare professionals nationwide. We are urging the government to accept our plea for an urgent central ordinance for safety and security of healthcare workers and institutes. We request the authorities to allow for the same and provide the necessary arrangements for the elective out patient services outside Nirman Bhawan,” it concluded. 

Meanwhile, emergency services will continue as before at all the hospitals.
